WERASBIC holds 2004 annual meeting in San Francisco

Los Angeles, Calif., July 13, 2004 – The Western Regional Association of Small Business Investment Companies (WERASBIC) held its annual meeting in San Francisco. John M. Morris, managing director of GKM Ventures, will continue as president of WERASBIC for a second year. By virtue of this post, Morris also will remain a member of the NASBIC Board of Governors.

"I am thrilled to serve a second year as president," said Morris. "I look forward to continuing to work with the NASBIC staff in Washington, D.C. to promote venture capital investing throughout the Western U.S."

WERASBIC’s Annual Meeting featured presentations by The Honorable Steve Westly, controller of the State of California and by Andrew Seybold, publisher of Forbes/Andrew Seybold’s Wireless Outlook and one of the premier industry analysts covering the microcomputer and communications fields. Jeffrey Pierson, associate administrator for investment of the U.S. Small Business Administration, provided a comprehensive update on the SBA’s regulations and initiatives.

Since 1958 the National Association of Small Business Investment Companies (NASBIC) has represented the SBIC industry, promoting its expansion and vitality through effective representation and successful professional programs. It is the oldest organization of venture capitalists in the world. The Washington, DC-based association cooperates closely with other independent business associations in advancing the interests of small business at the federal level. Additionally, NASBIC sponsors and coordinates industry meetings and educational programs, including the annual Venture Capital Institute, widely recognized as the premier educational program on venture investing. NASBIC will hold its 46th Annual Meeting October 24-26, 2003, at The Phoenician in Phoenix, AZ.
